A bit about me...

I am David Wright -

and much like every creative individual in today’s age I am an artist and storyteller crying out to be heard in an endless digital sea of content. I have spent the majority of my life trying to make sense of my surroundings and experiences through creation, specifically painting and I constantly aspire to make my unique mark on the world. You can find images of my recent painting work decorating this page and if you are interested in viewing more, or commissioning a personal piece for yourself feel free to reach out!

I have found that inspiring an audience with compelling visuals is priceless gratification, but unfortunately after multiple attempts I couldn’t find my way into an MFA graduate program of my dreams. Relying on my undergrad degree in biology and service experience to make ends meet, I have continued to create artwork while learning countless life lessons along the way. I excel at taking on leadership while working with a team, and have gained the confidence to perform under pressure from years in the workforce. As I get closer to that daunting 30 years old “deadline” I made for myself, I get more and more anxious about building a stable career. Therefore I am relieved and grateful that I found my way into UX design!

Why UX?

Timidly at first, and after some extensive research, I decided UX/UI Design seemed to be the correct next step in my journey as a creator. The design process allows me to channel my inner artist to inform UI decisions while improving and providing meaningful experiences for users, what’s not to like? Oftentimes the most rewarding part of making work is seeing the way that people respond to it and making adjustments accordingly. I am always eager to take the initiative and provide excellent design, even on a budget, especially since I feel that my entire life has been managed on a tight budget! If anyone is a master of empathy, it is a server. As a waiter you are constantly expected to read your guest’s mind and cater your approach to fit their desires while still respecting the mantra of your company.

I constantly aspire to fully understand the user, to elevate my work beyond what is just required and weave timeless designs that would make my mom proud :). Also, these student loans from undergrad are not going to pay themselves off, now are they?

What inspires me?

Shroud of the Demon.jpeg

Much of my painting practice has been an attempt to address my own peace of mind and internalized trauma so I tend to over analyze myself and my interactions with others. I’m very capable of taking critique and applying it productively, that skill came along with art school!  I enjoy painting portraits of friends and people I admire, but I make self portraits as well :).

I’m ultimately inspired by how we as people interact, how we see ourselves in one another: influenced by natural impulses, our experiences, and the ever persuasive grasp of the media.

Causality - everyone reacts to a situation or product a certain way for a particular reason, and I strive to know why.
